It seems that all may be both very well and somewhat unwell over in
Cupertino. Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster, today released a report
that notes that Apple iPhone 5s supply seems to be running extremely
low, whilst the iPhone 5c supplies seem to be all in.
Yesterday, reports came in that Apple has cut their iPhone 5c
production orders in half, meaning demand for the device must be
extremely bad. Gene Munster contacted 60 different Apple Stores across
the US which saw availability drop from 27% a few weeks ago to 6% right
now. It’s not only the Gold iPhone 5s that’s scarce, other models are
too, stores with at least one available iPhone 5s SKU has dropped over
50% over the last week from 90% to about 40%. But all is not lost, the
shortages have shot resale values to over 32% of the purchase price,
sadly the iPhone 5c resale value has gone to 11% below purchase price,
and it is available pretty much everywhere.
Despite having to wait quite a while for delivery when ordering an
iPhone 5s, the iPhone 5c ships right to your door within 24 hours after
ordering it online, which is quite fast, but doesn’t bode well for the
premium plastic iPhone 5c.
